1. Background of Development

ESMS is a brand-new, efficient, rapid and economical SMS service for Enterprise applications, as it builds a new mode of working and spreading services for your Enterprise. Dr. Qing Li and Dr. Wenying Liu of City University of Hong Kong conceived the platform of ESMS, while the analyse and design of ESMS are realized by the MITGroup of ZhuHai Applied R&D Centres of City University of HongKong.
ESMS is the software to send SMS, by linking a mobile device to PC's serial port directly. ESMS is easy-use and of low-cost, and it provides individual and enterprise users an optimal system platform of SMS service.

2. Main Feature

• Easy to use: simple installation, friendly interface, convenient for use, easy to begin, and its style is similar to Outlook's interface.
• Good compatibility: supports SP SMS gateway, GSM modem of industry grades and generic mobile telephone; has high reliability; does not need to control artificially, thus reducing a lot of manpower.
• Strong stabilization: accommodates sending to a single user, a group of users or a number segment; supports dividing long SMS automatically, SMS management, address book, daily phrases, etc.
• Steady performance: encapsulates GSM protocol, supports sending out continuously at the same time at multi-serial-port safely and stably; completely supports Simplified Chinese and English.
• Fast sending speed: under the normal situation, can reach to 750 pieces of SMS per hour or higher; support up to 140 English words, or 70 Chinese words per SMS.
• High security: transmits SMS immediately and accurately; tracks the state, receives the returning report for the SMS sent out.
• Easy to expand: when systematic load is overweighted, the system can increase extra modem conveniently, and load balanced is implemented automatically.
• Strong Privacy: communication book of each operator, historical SMS, SMS sign information are kept separately.

Added / modified / deleted daily, to facilitate convenient sending of SMS.

3.9 Address Book Management

contact person can be easily added/modified/deleted; manage contact person group by group.

3.10 User Management

Allows to add/modify/delete individual users; user right settings include: super admin, SMS deletion, and common user.

3.11 Number segment Send

Can set number segment, send SMS to each of these numbers.

3.12 Timing Send

Can set time to send SMS.

3.13 Send Email

Send email to everyone from the Address book.

3.14 Email Notification

When a new email arrives, detailed information of email, such as amount of new email, sender, size, object, time, can be shown.

3.15 Mobile number Localizer

Search the mobile number localizer, and get the information about its city, state, area code, type.

3.16 Statistic Report

Can generate report by calculating SMS received, SMS sent, SMS time spent, SMS fee and other statistics. The result can be shown as a table, histogram, pie diagram, or line diagram, and more detailed data can be printed.

4. Problems Resolved

• The system offers an enterprise SMS platform, and serves customers through another channel; extends services to customer's mobile phones, which has the advantages of affinity, influence, attraction and competition ability. Compared to the traditional way, this method is more efficient and pertinent. The rate of reading information is far higher than the traditional publicity medium. It is more efficient to publicize the products and upgrade the image of your enterprise by this means.
• The system can reduce the enterprise information cost by a large amount, and no longer need to worry about the large sum of telephone fee and manpower resource. It costs less than 0.1 dollars for sending a SMS, and has no other communication fee and travel fee required. Customer's telephone cost can also be reduced largely.
• It increases the work efficiency: Sending SMS does not need to contact with every target, hence employees or customers don’t need to return to the company if they want to check some information; instead, they just query the company's computer database by mobile phones. ESMS also enhances the customer management by the increment service, and increases the customer's satisfaction degree. The service can be customized to your company’s specificity.

8. Hardware Environment

8.1. Equipment

ESMS adopts the way in which a GSM modem or mobile phone links with PC's serial port directly and sends various kinds of short messages, so you should choose the equipment before using ESMS. The equipment which we recommend is as follows:

b、Nokia all series (need Nokia Fsub driver and only for Win9X/WinNT)
c、Standard modem series
d、WAVECOM modem
Among them, WAVECOM modem is a USB equipment which links to PC's serial port and can replace the mobile phone. As following diagram shows:

As industry GSM modem, WAVECOM has high dependability, can send close to 800 short messages per hour, which is more steady and swift than a mobile phone. ESMS supports the functions of the modem entirely.

8.2 Choose PC's serial port

You can configure the serial port in ESMS, but we remind you to pay attention that Siemens、Motorola all series usually link with COM1 and Nokia all series usually link with COM2.
